PCN guest speaker#1: mobile dj movement

Armed with speakers, turntables, light systems, and records, Filipino American mobile DJ crews rocked dance floors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area from the late 1970s through the mid-1990s. Bearing such colorful names Ultimate Creations, Unlimited Sounds, Spintronix, and Sound Sequence, these crews became the mainstay for a vibrant youth-lead scene that stretched from San Francisco to San Jose, Daly City to Union City, Vallejo to Stockton.

Join us as we have Professor Oliver Wang from CSU Long Beach as our guest speaker to us share about this remarkable movement in the Bay Area.

PCN Guest speaker: history of fil-am. 90’s artists

Thursday, Febuary 4th @ 6:00pm

The 90s was huge scene bubblin with a new generation of Fil-Am R&B singers coming out of the Bay at that time. Artists, like Jocelyn Enriquez, would pave the way, becoming one of the first Filipino Americans to sign a major label record deal. More acts would follow, and it became common to hear Filipino American freestyle and R&B music acts, like Jocelyn Enriquez, Kai, Pinay, OneVoice, Buffy, and Jaya (to name a few) playing at family parties, cotillions, night clubs, concert stages, and even the radio. If you're interested of hearing more about the scene, come and join us as we have guest speaker Christina Luna as she share knowledge of the history and experience of this 90's music scene
